Your Questions About Low Cost Dental Insurance

Thomas asks…

My family has health insurance but, no dental where can we go to get low cost dental insurance?

barry0912 answers:

You have five options with dental.

1. Go without insurance. If you have good teeth and just want the basics you probably don’t need any plan. A yearly cleaning and exam and even an occasional filling will cost you less without insurance.

2. Visit a local dental school. You can get many procedures done for a reduced price if you’re willing to let them practice on you.

3. Insurance – Depending upon the policy: cost $30-$60 per month. You pay a $50 deductible first, they have an annual maximum that they’ll pay per year of $750 – $1500, they have a waiting period up to 18 months for major work and then you’re paying 50% of the charges. Example – average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With insurance you pay $414 after paying 18 months of premium (around $800 or $900). Advantage – you can use any dentist with most plans.

4. Discount plans – Cost – $5-$12 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Also, hardly any dentists will accept the plan and when they do you MIGHT get a 10% discount, which is about the same discount you can get by paying cash. Example – average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With discount plans you pay around $746. Be very wary of these plans because most are scams. The people that sell these plans have little or no knowledge about health & dental insurance and do not need a license to sell them. The plans are not regulated by the state so you have no recourse when you have problems. Some states are starting to ban these plans from being sold. Here is an informative link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm concerning these plans.

5. Fee for Service discount plans – Cost $7-$15 per month. No deductible, no annual maximum and no waiting periods. Many dentist will accept the plan (check providers first before signing up with any plan). When you use the plan there is a set fee that the dentist will charge you. Example – average cost for a root canal in my area is $829. With fee for service plans you pay as little as $404.

I’m an insurance agent and my personal plan is the fee for service plan. I got mine here http://www.dpbrokers.com/default.aspx?locationid=20349 specifically the Aetna Dental Access plan but which one you get depends upon your area and comparing the fee schedule to find the best for what you need covered.

Steven asks…

where to find low cost dental insurance and can choose any dentist in Texas?

here’s the story
8 months ago, a little piece of my filling between front teeth fell out, i didn’t fell anything and it doesn’t look noticeable so i left it like that…
i think about 4 months later, one day i woke up and found the part above my lips, underneath my nose swollen. it makes my face looks different like i look like a gorilla or something.
and later that day on my upper front gum there was 2 purple pus
i was freaking out and asked my roommates they told me to take some penicillin that my mom bought in mexico, then poke the pus, drain and see if its blood or white stuff
so then i did, freaking out and scared to death and sanitize a thumbtack with vodka
and poke the crap out of my mouth put pressure on it let it drain totally
it was a lot of blood
few days after i kept taking penicillin the swellings are gone
i was too busy in school and working so i didn’t went to dentist immediately
and so on, it happened again this week
swellings are back but this time only on left side.
it came out a little pus today so far it’s white but i wonder if it’s gonna get bigger and became purple
i went to community dental clinic afternoon and my dentist tell me i got my tooth infected
i will need a root canal and fillings, he said it’s 70% possible to success
if he can’t save that tooth he will have to take it out!!!!
OMFG!!! WTF that’s my FRONT TOOTH!!
it’s gonna take 600 only for the root canal and if it didn work ill have to pay more for denture
i don’t have any insurance so i am begging to find a low cost dental insurance that doesn’t pick dentist for me to go to
( because they don’t accept dental plans and insurance has to be for any dentist)
i am a college student taking financial aid and loans to pay tuitions,my car and my rent
i’m working 2 jobs as babysitter and cashier that doesn’t make big money and no one’s there to support me.

I really need help!!! please please does anyone knows which dental insurance that’s not so expensive and is for any dentist in Texas? );

BTW I live in College Station

barry0912 answers:

You’re not going to find private dental insurance that pays out more than it costs. Between coverage limits, waiting periods, and copays (btw, it won’t pay more than $1,000 a year, and you have to have it a full year before having anything major done, and it will pay HALF of a root canal).

What you need to do, is find a local dental school. In College Station, that would be Baylor. You can get super low cost treatment, with a buncha students standing around watching.

Your Questions About Title Nine

Nancy asks…

Sex Discrimination?!? Title Nine?

Okay so at our CATHOLIC PRIVATE school in PA the girls are forced, without option, to take dance. All nine years, kindergarden through 8th. The boys do not have to, they can if they want to, but none ever do. So if the girls have no option and the boys do, then is this sex discrimination? Title Nine doesn’t apply because we are not funded by the goverment at all. But can they FORCE girls to take dance just because we are girls?

Title Nine info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_IX

barry0912 answers:

Get over yourself. It’s a private school, your parents are paying tuition. Talk to them if you have a problem with the educational program. The public schools that are supported only with tax dollars are struggling to keep cardboard on the windows.
Are you old enough to be on this site you insolent whining ninny?

Ken asks…

Now that Title Nine has happened in colleges,…?

,…when are we going to have malls and department stores have the same thing happen to all that extra space for womens’ clothes?

Title Nine has done more harm than good because boys like playing sports more than women do, on average. But, they decided to do this thing, reguardless of how unproductive and unprofitable it might be, in the name of equality,.

SO THEN, how about we, to balance that out, do everything we can to make malls, department stores, and restrooms all the same size, with EQUAL SPACE, and EQUAL amounts of clothing?
If you wanted equality enough for Title Nine to happen, then you should realize it’s only fair that this equality follow us with stores for the ratio of mens/womens clothing and amounts of space for that clothing, and with equal space for fitting rooms.
If you say no to this, yet you supported Title Nine, then you are a hypocrite and don’t want equality.

BTW, when I speak of Title Nine, I’m not talking about myself, I’m talking about all those guys going to college. I myself already went to college and received my Associate’s Degree.
ALSO,
I think equality in women also paying for the dates with men is important to. Those women can argue that men don’t spend lots of money on make-up, high heels, and other female accessories, that make be true, yes, but then again, women generally eat then men do, men generally face a higher food bill, on average.

BTW, it’s those womens’ fault that they go to pricey stores. The decision to spend top dollar at JC Penney and designer stores or get something good enough and sexy enough at Wal-Mart, they’ve got nobody to blame but themselves.
I left out the word “less” when I tried to mention that women eat less then men on average, to clear up that typo.
“Benino”,
More men are interested in competitive sports than women are, but they made it equal anyway, so now, we need to make department stores equal to, we’re merely just doing the same thing, in the name of equality.

barry0912 answers:

Title 9 should be scrapped and the people who pushed for it should be prosecuted under existing sexism laws.

Shopping space is only a tiny aspect of the spectrum of equality that feminists ignore. A clearer example is that you don’t see feminists pressing for women to have the same obligation to active combat duty as men have.
