What jobs can I get with a Bachelor’s in Entrepreneurship/Small Business Management degree?

I have been out of college for about two years now and have worked a lot of random jobs like receptionist, gym member specialist, personal home cook, etc… -the kinds of jobs I don’t need a degree for. I graduated with a degree that is probably more geared toward consulting than a skill related field. What other kinds of jobs should I apply for?

barry0912 answers:

I find it ironic that you got a four-year degree in entrepreneurship/business management and didn’t mention anything concerning starting and running your own business. The brainwashing of us Americans into the template of automatically looking for jobs working for someone else is very strong. Unless, of course, you’ve already considered this and have no interest in this possibility.

As a business owner, you have total control of what you do and don’t do and your rewards when/if successful are virtually unlimited. And many businesses don’t require a lot of money to start. Plus it’s possible to get money in other ways other than out of your own pockets to start your business.

If you are interested, I would consider books written by Tyler G. Hicks. He has been writing books on this subject for many years (I recently got one with a copyright of 1966) and they are very good, IMHO. The only thing out of date seems to be the dollar examples he uses based on all the inflation over the years. He is still in business today. A number of people ding his books in reviews because he doesn’t take you through the whole process step by step and sometimes plugs his other materials, but I like him. I can virtually guarantee you’ll learn from his books. A true entrepreneur doesn’t need hand-holding. Just info, guidance, encouragement and options. I recently ordered a book of his entitled, “How to Build a Second Income Fortune in Your Spare Time” with a copyright of 1965, that I would very highly recommend to you in spite of its age. I’m only up to page 75 so far but it’s very, very good. I’m very glad I bought it.

I would suggest you go to Amazon.com or some other used book sellers on the internet and see if any of his books interest you and possibly get some ideas going in your head in the fields you are most interested in.

In school did you take coursework in business formation, business law, marketing and advertising? There are many good books on these subjects and I would use the reviews on Amazon.com to find the best ones to help you. Other business books on the subjects of interest and need to you to help you be super successful should also be considered. To look for good books on legal issues and the mechanics, I’d consider Nolo.com as an initial place to look. Their books are most often high quality, although some are of course better than others.

I am presently working on starting a nonprofit. It’s pretty hard to get fired when you’re the owner of the company. Plus, you can work at any job within your company as you desire. And switch around whenever you like. Or stay small and do it all. Or start off small and expand as you need or desire to. You can also start your business part-time while working a regular job until you start making way more money in your own business. Plus you can have more than one small business going at the same time if you’re so inclined.

My opinion is it’s pretty hard to beat the advantages and potential of the job of business owner. No matter what you do, it will build on your degree and experience in your field. That’s my suggestion.

Good luck, Lala. 🙂

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Services

Carol asks…

Do programs like TrafficSwarm really work or are they a waste of my time?

I am an internet marketing newbie. I have two sites that I want to promote, www.howland.ws and www.dennishowland.ws. Are there ways to get traffic to my websites without spending tons of cash on advertising?

barry0912 answers:

Yes,there is my friend..I’d suggest building links to wherever you would like searchers to land. If your category pages are the most useful, link there – if the articles are most useful, link there.

The main purpose of these links is to get higher ranking with search engines when someone types in a relevant keyword phrase. These keywords will send visitors searching for information on a specific topic to your website and allows you gain a new reader or make some money from whatever affiliate program or ad scheme you are running.

I’ve recently set up several websites for some friends and link building was my main concern because I needed links for the webpages to be indexed and start showing up in the search engine. I did also use the free ebook course i got here http://tinyurl.com/237cvqj to optimize my list building

On the other hand,TrafficSwarm systems are not fool proof. People can cheat, meaning, you could have someone running a program that ‘views’ your site, but it’s a program not a person, taking away ANY chance of a action happening. It is time consuming sitting behind your desk surfing other people’s sites. It also kills the bandwidth, and for South Africans, that’s a problem.
Aside from that your subscription rate, even though you will receive subscriptions, is lower than through advertising mediums, cause these users are users that want traffic for their websites in exchange and aren’t necessarily interested in your products and services.Your increase in ranking only lasts as long as you’re a member of the system. As soon as you stop using the system, the users disappear and you drop in rankings again.

Robert asks…

How much return on investment can I expect for internet marketing efforts?

Is it unreasonable to assume that a paid bundle for ad/tweet that reaches 1 million users, probably gets actually seen 500,000 times, clicked through 50,000 times, and assuming I have a great landing page and a relatively cheap service at $20, gets purchased AT LEAST 50 times?

50 purchases for 1 million potential impressions? Reasonable?

barry0912 answers:

Hi, in theory this sounds good and reasonable. In practice, you have to be extremely careful. If you reach for untargeted audience, the ROI can be very bad.

Do you have the sources to target the audience for free? If not, you have to calculate your costs.

For example, you buy 200 gigs in fiverr, each gig targeting 5000 people, you spend 5$ / gig. This is already 1000 $. If the audience is targeted, and you do get your 50 purchases, you earn 20$. ROI is 0.

For Google ads, the cost per click (CPC) can be everything from 0,4 $ to eternity – you have to analyze this in forehead.

Let’s assume your CPC is great and you pay 0,4$ times 50,000 = 20,000. If I were you, I would say – I don’t think so. Absolutely does not worth it.

The best way is to make return on no investment, meaning spend close to nothing and get great returns. There are ways to do this – you need of course the knowledge, the time and the practice.

Steven asks…

Can anyone help me with a detailed affiliate marketing strategy?

I started getting involved in affiliate marketing a couple of months ago, but I feel like I am jumping all over and not getting anything accomplished. I need an actual affiliate marketing strategy that I can follow step by step. Does anybody have a good one to follow? I am willing to pay some money for a program or tutorial.

barry0912 answers:

Just like you I only started doing affiliate marketing about 3 months ago, but before that I had researched it for about 3 months. I came across a website for Matt Bacak, www.mattbacak.com, who is already a millionaire and I think he is only like 30 years old. He has several products that you can buy and also a newsletter that you can subscribe to you called Internet Marketing Dirt. I have found his products and even his free information on affiliate marketing strategy a ton better and more informative than anybody else’s that I have come across in the 3 months that I did research on affiliate marketing.

I have only been doing actual affiliate marketing part-time at nights and on weekends for 3 months, but I am seeing some pretty good income right now. It’s enough to pay my car payment as well as groceries for the month for our family of 3 so I can’t complain. And I know that it will only increase the more I work at it because I am learning how to be more efficient every day. Although I may never be able to quit my full-time job, I will continue to have this extra money for quite awhile, which means that my wife can stop working.

Anyways, check out Matt’s website and check out the different products as well as his newsletters as he has a great affiliate marketing strategy and is very willing to share it with anyone who will listen.

barry0912 answers:

Hi There!

To answer your questions: 1) eCommerce primarily applies to the methods used to sell products and services online (such as shopping cart software). Internet marketing refers to the methods used to build visibility for a product or service. Internet marketing methods include anything from building a website to writing articles, to other methods that have yet to be invented.

2) As for schools that offer an official degree, Full Sail seems to be the only school really promoting it. The thing is, I wouldn’t recommend an internet marketing degree, because the best internet marketing methods change every year, and in my experience, it is impossible for an institution to keep up with the “bleeding-edge” tools and tricks.

If it’s the actual degree you want/need, I’d recommend going for a business, marketing, or entrepreneurial degree, but learning internet marketing on your own. Internet marketing is a skill that is learned by doing, not just reading theory.

When I first got started, I took a free online course called the “Thirty Day Challenge”, in which each day you watched video tutorials that showed you how an online tool worked, and then you had to apply it to your own goal of making $1 online. The Thirty Day Challenge is now just called “The Challenge”, so you can take it at your own pace. I highly recommend it for learning internet marketing strategies.

3) Not sure if any of the internet marketing degrees are offered anywhere but on the internet 😉 You may have to keep looking, but as I said, seek out a related major, then teach yourself the techniques via eBooks and online courses.

If you’re college age, a potential employer may only offer you an internship (unpaid) anyway, UNLESS you have already gotten results (made money) for yourself or others. So you might as well learn how to use internet marketing on your own to get those results.

The irony is, once you’ve mastered the in-demand skill of internet marketing, you may not want to finish school OR work for anyone else.

Good luck!

Lisa asks…

barry0912 answers:

Best to invest in a good website. NAR’s 2005 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers showed 77% of buyers used the Internet in their search! This is a HUGE number!

Everyone wants to be on page ONE of search results! If you think it will be EZ, I have a good deal on a bridge for you!
Best to….

I personally used a firm (link below) that did a 250,000 site submissions for my site. It worked great. But, results now take a few months.

Also, Get HIGH placement for your KEYWORDS!

Even when indexed by the search engines, it’s not going to help you if your keyword shows up on page 987. Sure, everyone would like their keywords to show up on page one, two or three of the returned results. But, I want to win the lottery! So? What are you going to do? One thing for sure….it will NOT be EZ!

You need GOOD/Informative content! Without this you will be wasting your time on other methods.

Below is some info that can assist you……

When someone types a specific phrase into a major search engine usually the results will show 10 site per page. These ‘organic’ sites are boxed in, usually on all sides by pay-per-click site ads.

So, in SEO theory you have to have your site placed on page one, two or three of the returned organic results to really benefit from the power of the Internet!

As an example. If someone in NY wanted a San Diego real estate broker, they would, perhaps type “San Diego real estate brokers’ into GOOGLE. If you do this today (standings change all the time), after the pay-per-click and the ‘local results’ you’ll see the first site is: www.brokerforyou.com You will also see (upper right)
“Results 1 – 10 of about 5,080,000 for San Diego real estate brokers.”

So, you will see that this one broker’s site (not a major real estate firm) has out ranked over FIVE MILLION other sites for this VERY POPULAR real estate search phrase!!!
Quite impressive!

After looking into the site, I also noted lots, of timely useful info in an EZ to follow site. This is VERY important! As without good ORIGINAL content you’ll NEVER have a top ranking site!

But, I also found on one of the internal pages, the name of the company that does the SEO for this site. They are:
http://www.websitetrafficbuild…

I also visited their site, and found it too had a high Google pagerank. Plus, they had great articles on SEO and software for learning to do your own SEO.

The bad news is that any true SEO work to get on page one of Google is VERY time intensive. Www.websitetrafficbuilders.com has a guaranteed results program…but, as it starts at $3,950.00, it’s really not for the little person.

I have downloaded their free trial SEO software, just a few days ago, so have not used it yet! But, I’m really learing alot for the free software. If they put this into an ebook, I’m sure they could sell quite a few copies!

*Also, on first link below is a website that offers about ten website and blog awards. They are FREE & even provide a link back to your site! Plus, they show the visitors that your site is a noch above the rest. Keep in mind, to get the award you have to have good info on your site and not just junk w/jumping graphics and tons of AdWords!

So, bottom line, GET THEIR FREE TRIAL SOFTWARE and even if you do NOT do anything else…you’ll learn a great deal about SEO from people who make their livelihood DOING IT!
