Marketing Strategies shouldn’t be different in a third world country, than they are in more developed countries.
BTW, “Third world country” is kind of offensive and politically incorrect.
In fact, people living in developing countries (rather than “third world”) generally are very sensitive to what they perceive as superiority pretensions from foreigners.
Take into account, for example, that developing countries like India and China provide a lot of top mind scientists, while other countries like Peru and Mexico have provided top artists.
You have to take into account three things:
What sort of media are you going to use? Some countries (even developing countries) enjoy widespread access to internet. In such places, that channel might work. In others, You’ll have to rely on billboards and perhaps radio ads.
What kind of message will you be sending? If your product/service is an aspirational one, then present it as such. If your product is rather a commodity, focus on availability and price.
Who is your audience? Contrary to common wisdom, there is a lot of educated people in every developing country. If you are going to cater them, then your strategies don’t need to be “streamlined” or somehow adapted. Again, if your audience is the bottom tier of the population, in terms of education and economic resources, then you should approach them in the very same way you’d approach the less educated people in your country.
