Your Questions About Internet Marketing Strategies

Donna asks…

Marketing Timeline?

Could some of you internet business owners tell me how you started your business, your marketing timeline? What did you do first and then after you got started. Press release? Media? SEO work?

barry0912 answers:

Marketing is a continuous everyday work. You do everything simultaneously because there is no single way where you can get traffic so you need to make sure that every possible source of traffic is reached

My suggested timeline is:

BEFORE LAUNCHING THE WEBSITE

– Do an extensive keyword research analysis. SEOBook.com has a very good listing of free tools http://tools.seobook.com/ that you can use to research the keywords for your site including: keyword density, determining the keywords you want to target, who are your competitors for your targeted keywords.

– Start mapping out your link strategy. You need to start making a list of who should link to you and where you can request for links.

– Start thinking of how you can get the word out about your business. Do you plan on writing articles? Will you harness viral marketing? Be sure to equip your site with tools Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

– Beta test your site and start inviting people (if applicable). If you are planning a social networking site for example, you can do a soft-launch for your site and invite people you know or friends of your friends to try out the site. This way you can iron out the kinks before you do your full blast marketing

UPON LAUNCHING

– Make sure your on-page factors (e.g. Title, metatags, keyword densities) are right on-target

– Issue a press release announcing the launch of your new site. Press releases are also a way to get inbound one-way links to your website. Here are some places where you can submit your press release for free

– Submit your site to the major search engines. If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s “Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day.” http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

SEO for MSN http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052006/msn.htm
Tying It Together: SEO For The Big Three http://www.powerhomebiz.com/052006/seo.htm

– Start submitting requests for links. You will find that some will not link to you because you have 0 pagerank because your site is new. But start submitting to DMOZ and other directories and build your pagerank

– Do offline marketing. Whether you are planning to print brochures or do direct marketing, now is also the time to do them

AFTER YOU LAUNCH

– Try to do marketing at least 1 hour every day – whether asking for reciprocal links, submitting articles or submitting your site to directories

– Keep abreast of what’s happening with the search engines.

– Do email marketing or send a newsletter on a regular basis

Piano Store Marketing Strategy?

I have invested in a Piano Store recently and was wondering what would be the best means of communicating with my target customer i.e. younger parents with kids in the range 5-10.

Does anybody have any experience with creating a Marketing Plan or Strategy for a Piano Store?

If I was to tie-in with a Brand or product; what would be the best options?

Any suggestions please?

barry0912 answers:

Although it predates the record album as an entertainment source, I guess your business has not entirely vanished yet, but it certainly has to be marketed differently than 20 years ago, I assume the manufacturers touch on traditional family values, as well as the decorative value of a traditional instrument.

One potential method to reach a small number of local prospects may be with paid Facebook advertisements, their demographic targeting is quite powerful, you can have ads only appear for married women between 25 and 40 who live in cities in close proximity to your location, there may be an “interest” like piano playing you may be able to target as well, they show you the potential reach of members a given ad setting would have, you could have such ads send people to a free Facebook business page.
While on the subject of internet resources you for sure need to have (and probably already do) a free Google Places page, they may provide a generic listing automatically, but you need to claim it and improve the content with more lengthy text, photos an potentially even video.

Sorry I m not more in touch with how kids are introduced to e piano these days, perhaps you can be a sponsor of some school events for the publicity and music evangelist opportunities, there are some cities (where the weather is friendly) that have old pianos in public places setup by some non profits.

Internet Website Marketing Ideas?

I own a small internet web maternity clothing shop. www.hautemamacouture.com I get almost no business to it at all. I tried paying for advertising with search engines but I had too small a budget (spent $100 on 4 different engines/month). I also have the same items in a store on eBay. That’s where I make 99% of my money. However, with their recent announcements of fee increases, they should just change their name to FeeBay and their changes to the feedback policy that will not allow a seller to leave negative when warranted, I can no longer afford to do business on there. I spend about $500-$1,000 in eBay fees a month but I make about $4,000 a month. How can I shift some of this around to promote my website. I am on a very limited budget and have no idea how to get people to go to this website and buy. Thanks!

barry0912 answers:

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Blog

Steven asks…

Are there any new ideas in marketing for products through the internet?

barry0912 answers:

New ideas? Mobile marketing, blog marketing, using social networking sites to build your brand. Other than that, it’s basically the classic ways that have proven to be effective in marketing online — search engine marketing, link building, viral marketing, online PR campaigns, etc.

internet market?

How many internet market is there where you can sell your cds or books? I know amazon ebay and loot how many mroe out there is there on this giant internet?

barry0912 answers:

Well, the best place to sell your products is your own website, because you can also build an email list, have a blog where people subscribe to your rss feed…

Amazon.com is a great place if you already have a website (and email list) and a book or some product that is tangible. For example joe vitale sold more of his books than harry potter in amazon.com only because he had a email list and a little network around him (he did joint venture deals with other website owners)…

Read this article: http://www.freetomanifest.com/become_millionaire.html (this is about internet, real estate and stock millionaires). The main important thing you need to realize when it comes to Internet is that you need to network and form relationships with other website or blog owners who can definitely help you to create the buzz.

Helen asks…

What form of online internet marketing is best for business?

PPC?
Adwords?
Yahoo?
Facebook ads?

Social marketing? Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc

What is the best way?
What is the best “value” (cheapest for its buck) way?

 solar movie online

barry0912 answers:

I think it will depend on your knowledge level, what business you are marketing, and what kind of budget you have to work with.

You can build a responsive marketing campaign using only free methods, but it may take longer to see results depending on your knowledge level. A marketer with the right knowledge might get a far better response using free methods than a less knowledgeable person using paid methods.

If you have the budget for it, you can hire someone with expertise in all the areas mentioned. What is the “cheapest for its buck” will be what gives you the best ROI, or Return On Investment. That means your ads and traffic source (audience) will need to be very targeted and already interested in what you are promoting. Any contextual advertising source such as PPC or Organic search will be best for that, but each method or site can be “best” depending on how you approach the people using those sites.

How you handle your sales funnel is also important to converting prospects to sales. You may lose money on the front end, but if you are offering something of value like a free giveaway to build a customer list and are building a relationship with them based on establishing trust and authority, you can experience a far greater return on the back end of the sales process. Even if you break even on the front end, you are at least building a valuable future customer list for free.

With social sites, you have to think about the types of people who use each site. Facebook users will likely have a different mindset and purpose for being on that site as compared to Twitter or LinkedIn. Knowing what motivates the majority of users on a given site will help you to design the right approach for each site.

I don’t think you can make a blanket statement about which is best or cheapest. Your knowledge level and willingness to test different approach methods for each site will determine what works best for you. I could say that Facebook is best, but out of 100 people that follow that advice and try advertising on Facebook, maybe one person would actually succeed in making a profit. Is it the site that is the problem or the knowledge of the person creating the campaign?

People using Google or Yahoo are likely searching on a specific topic. People using LinkedIn are professionals or business owners. People using Facebook are mostly looking to alleviate boredom or connect with friends. People using Twitter are people following a news feed, their favorite niche or hobby, following their favorite celebrity, or just have a need to tell the world what they are doing every other moment of the day.

If you design a sales approach that capitalizes on the mindset of each site user, you still have to identify who the buyers are. In organic search or PPC, that means finding buyer search terms, product names, product reviews, etc. With the other sites, you may have to do some testing, or offer a freebie for filling out a survey to find out what people are looking for.

I don’t claim to be an expert on marketing, but I have failed enough times to have learned a few lessons on the topic.

5. Pay per click advertising. Check the keywords carefully and measure your ROI

6. Banner advertising. Less effective than contextual or text based advertising but the right website to advertise can draw in traffic. As always measure your ROI carefully

Some tips on how to start with this marketing?

I am currently entrusted the position as manager of a particular business that is not doing particularly well at the moment. The main reason for this is that the service being offered is very unique and new… and also not very well known. The previous owners had abandoned this business due to their poor planning and design strategy. And despite the newspaper advertising, there aren’t alot of people coming, and it can be expensive. I put considerable effort designing a particular website but even that is not doing very well either. The rest of the managers, at present, are either waiting for people to come in at the business, but they haven’t really formulated an appropriate strategy. I personally think that the marketing for this is going to have to be low budget, very well researched, well planned, and require innovation to some degree. But I don’t feel motivated. How do I get started? Where do I begin? i have no expertise in marketing, economics or business.

If the service is new and novel, it may be appropriate to court the local TV news team to give an interview or demonstration of the service. Advertisements, endorsements and word of mouth are the main ways to reach a new audience. If it is a service which lends itself to demonstration you may try doing some mall appearances to acquaint people with your service. If is an Internet service visit chat rooms, and forums that cater to your prospective customers. Introducing a new product on a low budget it difficult unless you can tap into some free air time or get a celebrity to give you a push. There are some real tricks to Internet marketing, if you do not have a budget to hire a professional, there a lot of free resources on line. Best of luck The PracticaL Mentor.
