Your Questions About Internet Marketing News

Ruth asks…

What is the best way to market/advertise a bright pink headband and why?

This is for a school Economics project.
I need to know which method of advertising would be better to advertise a BRIGHT PINK HEADBAND.

EXAMPLES:
-Billboards
-Radio
Television
Print Media (Newspapers,Magazines etc)
-Word of mouth
internet
-Cellphone
-Pamphlets
-Sponsership

I also need the cost if possible (In Rands ie South African currency)

Thanks =)

barry0912 answers:

I can’t give you cost, but I can give you ideas..

Eliminate Billboards, Radio, Cellphone, and Pamphlets immediately. (They are not going to have purchase impact.)

Now, we need to decide a “pitch”, since you’re selling something “generic”, I’d tie it to a “cause”.

Wear a BRIGHT PINK HEADBAND TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR….. NOVEMBER IS PINK HEADBAND MONTH FOR… Etc…

That would probably lead me down the path of Sponsorship, getting a organization involved in my cause to promote the wearing of the Pink Headbands. (They already have an email list, a website, and the attention of news outlets)

Which could then easily move into free coverage by Print media, Television, Radio, Word of Mouth, etc…

Cost of Advertising?? With a great sponsor, and a CAUSE??

Almost nothing.

Mary asks…

What is a good way to advertise your business in the south east?

I’m starting a property management company in Chattanooga, TN and I dont think news papers alone will cut it.

barry0912 answers:

Local or geographically targeted search engine marketing and advertising is a good way to go. This puts you right in front of people looking for your services. A little keyword research shows there are 8 searches per day for “chattanooga property management”. Not sure exactly what individual services you are providing (outside or inside) or other areas you serve but you would have to find out what kind of search volume there is for them in your area.

You can reach the people searching for your services locally through localized web marketing programs such as local search engine optimization and local pay per click marketing. The most important thing is that your website is well optimized for the areas you serve. Http://www.localrise.com is a good starting point to learn more about these types of local internet marketing programs.

I am 17 years old and I want to find a NO SCAM internet marketing program to become a millionaire. Is this possible and are there any REAL NO SCAM programs I could use to make the money? Please help me for 5 star best answer.

barry0912 answers:

It is not possible. There is not one single legitimate online marketing program. They just want your personal and credit card info. Once they have that, they don’t need you any more. Avoid them all.

Questions offline business owners ask about internet marketing or getting a website?

I’m trying to make a “top ten” sort of list of the questions small business owners would ask about doing some internet marketing and/or getting a website. Can you help? :o)

barry0912 answers:

1: Hey, I just run a shoe repair place. How would an internet site help me?
2: How much will it cost?
3: How much time do I have to devote to it?
4: I don’t even know how to turn a computer on. How could I do something like that?
5: What is the “internet?”

That’s all I can think of right now. Good luck!

Ken asks…

What is Internet Marketing & Perpetual Marketing Machine?

What is Internet Marketing, and what does the Perpetual Marketing Machine do? I am so confused about all the people who say their websites snag them a six figure salary using the above methods. Is this like a giant pyramid scheme where people try to get you to buy their secret to wealth so that you can sell that secret to someone else etc…?

barry0912 answers:

Depending on whom you ask, the term Internet marketing can mean a variety of things. At one time, Internet marketing consisted mostly of having a website or placing banner ads on other websites. On the other end of the spectrum, there are loads of companies telling you that you can make a fortune overnight on the Internet and who try to sell you some form of “Internet marketing program”.

This ties in nicely with your question about Perpetual Marketing Machine. The Perpetual Marketing Machine is one of those “Internet marketing programs” that teaches people how to market digital products online.

Internet Marketing can be a very interesting subject and also quite complex so if you are looking to get involved do plenty of research. As with most things some programs work and some do not. Use common sense when looking and you should not go far wrong.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Jobs

Lizzie asks…

Is there really any money in this field of work?

I have been contemplating going back to school for web site design and internet marketing. I just wonder if there is really money in the field? Is anyone out there making a real living off of it and is it better to go it alone (opening my own design solution business) or to take a job with an established company?

barry0912 answers:

You listed two separate careers – web designing and web marketing.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in web marketing, I would strongly suggest getting a professional qualification at one of better web marketing programs in the country (somewhere like the University of Oregon – http://lcb.uoregon.edu/departments/mktg/index.html ) or possibly even an MBA in marketing. There is really not much money to be made in web marketing as a freelance or independent web marketer, unless you really establish yourself as an expert in the field by getting a top notch expert blog and building a high profile portfolio. However, if you get the right qualifications, you can posibly get a job at one of the big SEO or web marketing firms, which tend to be located either in the Boston/New York area, or in Silicon Valley. Salaries begin low ($30 to 40K), and the work is typically “grunt” work. However, you can build up to a six figure incombe, but that will take you time.

As regards being a web designer, the opportunities for freelance or independent work are much better, and you may not even need to go to school. The CIW qualifcation (http://www.ciwcertified.com/ ) is more than enough, and there are many online web design degrees or certificates which are available (check out http://www.worldwidelearn.com/ for some options). If you are going to set yourself up as an independent web designer, you are going to need to become well trained in several programming languages, get familiar with video and phot editing, and possibly even take a graphics art course or two from your local community college. As regards earning potential, that is going to be limited at the moment in the current economic climate, as businesses cut back on their marketing budgets (under which websites usually fall). However, you can make a reasonable income from web design on your own ($30 – 35K within the first year, if you are good), although you really have to concentrate on promoting yourself and establishing your credibility. Jobs with a web design firm are highly competitive, and are also under pressure from the economy. Firms normally hire on the basis of past experience with web design (so you might want to look at hunting for a job after you have had some experience out on your own and built up a portfolio), and usually want some sort of degree or qualification (although this differs from firm to firm). Salaries differ, but usually fall into the $45 to 55K range, with the top designers getting double or more than that.

Sandy asks…

What are some of the best colleges for advertising and marketing?

I don’t really care about location, and that’s all the internet searches seem to care about.
I’m just curious as to what the top schools are for advertising.

barry0912 answers:

The best undergraduate marketing programs are at the University of Pennsylvania and at the principal campuses of the universities of Michigan, Texas, California and North Carolina per the US News list. However, for undergraduate work, you will probably receive a very good education for much less money at your own state university if you do not live in one of the latter four states. UPenn is a (private) Ivy, of course.

Why does Yahoo select unimportant topics for their news feature on their homepage?

I see featured news articles like a hot dog eating champ, or some ultimate fighter stuff displayed fairly regularly. Surely there are much more important things going on in the world than these things. Why doesn’t Yahoo use more important news as their main feature?

barry0912 answers:

Cause its the 21st century.
Yahoo knows how to attract people. They know that the vast majority of people accessing the internet actually have time to waste. Only a small part of the internet users are serious such as officers, doing work etc. They are the ones who would prefer looking at stock markets, reviews, finances or rather focus on their work. It is in fact human nature to get attracted to unimportant things. People are curious always, whether its about “a hot dog eating champ” or “which actor kissed the other” etc. 99% of times people get attracted to negatives more than positives. A great example is facebook. People waste time concentrating on a social site which does not earn them anything. Its just a circle of curiosity as to who commented on that picture, whos online etc. Thus to be back to your question, Yahoo provides these unimportant articles for the “majority” of internet users who are just floating around cause they have time to kill. No offense to those who actually do something fruitful via the internet.
