Daniel asks…

since i am a writer i would like a couple of low cost business ideas, please?

I am a freelance writer who’s online in college for my BA in journalism/mass communications, so i am broke for the most part. i was wanting to ask if some or several could help me out with this business idea because it is hard to get started as a writer online when i do understand the internet for the most part, but not how to turn it in to profit.

i guess what i was wanting to know was what do you suggest i do, as a writer, about writing at home online as making it my career? do you suggest getting started working for a variety of companies by getting paid cash to write each article i turn in and build up some clientele, become a known writer on a couple of websites, and struggle with other competitors to have my article selected on open articles with lots of submissions? i didn’t think so, but i was wondering if i decided to make a website, start adding creative content for readers, how does the generating money come in to play with advertisements and links to other sites? if so, where can i get a free domain name and website started? is it that simple? what else can be added to generate money? is there anyone else that can give some ideas to a desperate freelance writer looking to make some money to at least pay my bills each month?

i would be happy to be able to generate at least $300+ a week in order to keep from looking for outside work, and i know that people usually do not make that kind of money when they first start. yet, i am willing to learn extra advice on what i should do, but please be specific and drop me a link or two if you would because i could really use some guidance.

i get so aggravated looking at all these work from home ads that want your money to show u how to do things that others are giving away free of charge to help you. there’s so many untrustworthy sites out there……

any professionals or self-starters out there with some advice that could really help, i would be honored. what are the advertisements that pay besides google adwords?

thanks again,

miranda

barry0912 answers:

Hey Miranda,

There is a big demand for article writers in the internet marketing area. I currently pay $5-$7.50 for a 500 word article. Check out the Warrior Forum in the Warriors (http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors-hire/) for hire section to get an idea what the market is like. Also this site, http://www.needanarticle.com/ pays writers. Then there’s Fiverr.com as well.

Good luck.

Donna asks…

e-marketing?

What is it? how can use it? Im a REALTOR in San Antonio TX where do i go or what do i do to do this?

barry0912 answers:

This is from wikipedia…
“E-marketing is a type of marketing that can be defined as achieving objectives through the use of electronic communications technology such as Internet, e-mail, Ebooks, database, and mobile phone. It is a more general term than online marketing which is limited to the use of internet technology to attain marketing objectives.”

I would say everything from generating an e-newsletter (automatically sending them real estate news for your area or your business weekly or monthly, for example) to optimising your site for search engines to paid search engine ads to internet radio advertising would all be ways of e-marketing to prospective clients. And there are many more.

If you are thinking about marketing your real estate site (assuming you have one), online marketing & search engine optimization would be a good idea. Online marketing would take a long time to explain here. If you are interested in doing it yourself, check out seochat.com (that’s where I started several years ago & is still a good source of info). If you are looking for a professional web marketing solution, look around but be careful as there are many shady marketing companies out there (look for testimonials)… Or call us.

the characteristics of e-marketing tools?

barry0912 answers:

Did you know there are now over 1 Billion Internet users around
the world. And that number is increasing every day.

That’s roughly one sixth of the world’s population now using the web
to surf, to find information, and of course – to shop… That’s one
enormous marketplace.

Likewise, many individuals just like yourself, have taken advantage
of this new medium and created successful online websites and
businesses. In the process these online marketers have carved out
an envious lifestyle – working at home or wherever they want,
working their own hours, creating part-time or full-time incomes
for themselves and their families.

Many have attained a level of personal and financial freedom,
rarely experienced this side of a Bill Gates’s luncheon.

Along the way many of these marketers and ordinary people have
realized in order to fully maximize their benefits from sales and
traffic you need professional marketing tools. In other words,
you need high quality proven marketing tools and software to
make your job easier and quicker. These marketing tools will
save you time, money and stress! A whole lot of stress!

But more importantly, it is these effective marketing tools which
give you the freedom that makes the whole online marketing
experience so envious. These tools will Liberate you from
hours or even days of tedious work. These marketing tools do
most of the work for you. Professional marketers know a one-time
investment in high quality effective marketing tools will pay
dividends again and again… They also know it is the only way
to proceed.

Susan asks…

affiliate marketing through facebook?

Im new with affiliate marketing and recently came across a video on youtube about affiliate marketing on facebook, and the guy says all you have to do is go to clickbank, find a product and click the like button. then when it comes up on your facebook news feed and people click it, it redirects them to a website where they can order it. and if they order it, you get your commission.
is this legit? is it this simple? thx 🙂

also, anyone recommend any good websites etc, for free, where it teaches and shows you a step by step plan to affiliate marketing? thanks! 🙂

barry0912 answers:

Only thing free is going to get you is lost in the world of internet marketing. I can point you some where where you will find success..

Clickbank is very real, they pay me over $1000 a day in commision right now, I’ve never dabbled with actually using their social promote feature (which is what you’re talking about)
but I have put affiliate links right on my wall or other peoples walls
Honestly If you want to really get payed I would read this http://hightechsolutions.net/google-sniper.php

Your Questions About Internet Marketing News

Joseph asks…

How private/secure is the internet?

Just wondering, are websites allowed to keep tab on the sites you go, know your name from cookies or something etc. I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT GIVING OUT FREE INFO ON CONTESTS or whatever. Just like… right now, being on any website, what information is being taking, etc.

barry0912 answers:

Kath, like it or not the Internet is the Wild West of data…anything goes.
For starters, how’s this for ‘right now’:
Yahoo! & Google breach of trust to it’s patrons reached a new low.
Both services submissively bowed to advertising conglomerates, by adopting ‘phorm’ inspired “targeted advertising”; a ‘data siphon’ method that directs your clickstream to 3rd party advertisers, and builds a portfolio on your surf habits.
This may make your browser display pop-ups which you have no control over, and may in fact do many other un-requested actions with your entire system.

Google itself has spyware.
From their Privacy Center page
(http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html)
“No personally identifiable information – We don’t collect or serve ads based on personal information without your permission.”
Notice the last 3 words…yet it is specifically an “Opt Out” condition!

And Gmail, once perceived to be ‘safe’, actually scans all your mail & then selects advertising based on the content. It’s “for your own good….”
http://mail.google.com/mail/help/about_privacy.html

“Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie on our Google content network …”
These guys are the used car salesman of the internet, very ‘slippery’ characters burying their methods, details & opt out choices with layer after layer, page after page of non-sense & merry-go-round tactics plus non-functioning links, etc.
All I can say is keep trying & get as many of these tracking portfolios killed as you can.

Yahoo! Calls their invasion of privacy “Matched advertising”, and it stems from the ‘Network Advertising Initiative’ (NAI), a conglomerate of advertising kingpins and requires “Opt Out” to defray the advertising tsunami from Yahoo’s partners in this server based spyware/adware (and to stop them from creating a ‘profile’ of you).
“Opt out” sign in pages;
Yahoo here: http://info.yahoo.com/relevantads/
Google here: http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html
NAI garbage here: http://networkadvertising.org/managing/o…
DoubleClick here: http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/dart_adserving.aspx

**************
Yahoo has gone insane.
**CRITICAL RECENT DEVELOPMENT**
Get this: the ‘new’ Yahoo by default, allows your Yahoo! Contacts computers, to send to whatever 3rd party software they have on THEIR computer, information about you! Can you believe that!!?
This is something you must end ASAP.
Look in your mail account settings (ya, it’s buried very conveniently) and uncheck this box!

Go to your Yahoo! Mail: near the “Welcome (your name)”, tick the ‘Profile’ link; next page, upper right corner, tick ‘Settings’; next page, near the bottom is the box to uncheck.

This is spying, pure and simple.
And the deterioration of trust with Yahoo! Grows…it’s pathetic.

IMHO: the installation of the 3rd party data siphon servers, @ Yahoo & Google, et al, have for the last 4 weeks or so, been responsible for the Internet wide “glitches” and server interruptions, and is subjecting all users to massive invasion of privacy.

**********
Note: New US Court ruling “…the U.S. Federal Communications Commission that mandate telecommunications carriers must get an “opt-in” before disclosing customers’ information to a carrier’s joint venture business partner or an independent contractor.

The FCC “gave sufficient reasons for singling out the relationships between carriers and third-party marketing partners,” the court said in denying the petition for judicial review sought by the NCTA.”
http://tech.yahoo.com/news/nm/20090213/tc_nm/us_fcc_cable_court

But even this appears to be only a ‘suggestion’ from the court & may be good news; we’ll see.

Norton Internet Security 2009 (NIS 2009) is currently the FASTEST internet security package (at 7mb memory usage only!) (beats kaspersky by 15mb)

Proof http://www.pcauthority.com.au/Review/127995,norton-internet-security-2009-believe-the-hype.aspx

NIS 2009 has the lowest system usage (therefore fastest) product on the market. With high a detection rate of 92% on par with Kaspersky.

Norton Internet Security 2009 is the Fastest (more proof)

http://www.bastillwork.net/security-software/norton-internet-security-2009.html

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=104478

Also answerers must understand, a free anti-virus alone can’t fully protect a system.

By the time of answering this, NIS 2010 has just been released. Faster than ever and using new reputation-based technology, this eliminates the old signature-based scanning and opens new potentials for nexgen security.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing Degree

Carol asks…

What can I expect if I major in marketing?

What I’m wondering is if I get a bachelor’s in marketing will I have to work in sales as an entry level position? I believe that I’m a very creative person, and I like to work with ideas so I’m majoring in marketing. I know that what I really want to do is advertising but I don’t want to major in that because I feel that it may be too narrow, not sure though. I hate the idea of cold calling or trying to pitch a product, I did it for a while and hated it.

barry0912 answers:

Right now the Internet marketing industry is booming. Especially in the social media side. The way I look at it, if you can help companies build revenue online, then you will always be an asset.

Forget about degrees though, school wont be able to teach you what you need to know because the Internet will change before the class is over.

Not saying you shouldn’t get a degree, it will help… But in the end personal experience will always be more important with this.

Susan asks…

What type of job would I be looking at majoring in Marketing Management?

I’m considering majoring in Marketing Management. I’d like to know what type of job I’d have after graduating, its salary, etc., My focus would be on the gaming industry or the internet industry either which I could care less. All inputs would be great. Also, would marketing management prepare me faster as a ‘Marketing Manager’ than to say if I was just to major in Marketing?

barry0912 answers:

You could use that degree to make a fortune in pharma sales. Especially if you minored in chem, and possibly communications.

Your Questions About Internet Marketing News

Richard asks…

Internet Revolution???????

On the topic of Internet Revolution or Digital Revolution, is it possible if you can give me some internet sources? (links that talks about internet revolution through bbc, fox, mbc, ect)

I can find articles that explain WHAT internet revolution IS, but i can’t really find articles that talk about their opinions on internet revolution, like pros or cons. Thanks!

barry0912 answers:

Try a search like this using Google News:

“internet revolution” opinion

https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gl=us&tbm=nws&q=internet+revolution+opinion&oq=internet+revolution+opinion&gs_l=news-cc.3..43j43i53.2755.6543.0.6825.27.10.0.17.1.0.147.1021.6j4.10.0…0.0…1ac.1.oYyXw4Gy97I#hl=en&sugexp=cpsugrccggmnoe&gs_rn=14&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=_0bl2-O6mUsd9mEWNXQnCg&ds=n&pq=internet%20revolution%20opinion&cp=30&gs_id=40&xhr=t&q=%22internet+revolution%22+opinion&es_nrs=true&pf=p&gl=us&tbm=nws&sclient=psy-ab&oq=%22internet+revolution%22+opinion+&gs_l=&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.46865395,d.cGE&fp=55b25e68d9baa2dd&biw=1366&bih=643

Your other best option would be to use your local public or college library databases (such as National Newspaper Core [Proquest], EBSCO Newspapers, Opposing Viewpoints, etc.)

It may help your search of the open Web or of the databases if you can use additional related keywords in your search. Words that might signify the *kind* of opinions you’re looking to find.
Globalization
free markets
online generation
freedom
outsourcing
specific country names
censorship
the list can be extended as far as your vocabulary and time to search allows

For more ideas and/or sources open a chat with a librarian near you.

Who owns CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, Wall Street Journal etc…?

and most other major purveyors of news that we digest here in the USA?

I am speaking of the actual people, the majority stock holders, the ones who have the power to shape an agenda or political leaning of a particular news source.

When you look at who the owners are, would you then say that the most such news organizations lean most towards being liberal or conservative….and what does this tell you about the news that we get?
