Your Questions About Internet Marketing Company

Nancy asks…

How would I go about setting up this type of business?

How would I set up an internet company where customers purchase “product x”(an image) and then it would be sent to their cell phone or mobile device? I’ve already checked out different sms solution companies as well as web site development companies such as monstercommerce.com. I just need to know if there any specific steps when it would come to a company like this.

Since you’ve never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I’d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting an internet company and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you’ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you’ll go after them.

You’ll need to register the business with your state controller’s office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

William asks…

What can you recommend to make an internet cafe work?

I want to start an internet cafe near a university. What can you suggest to make the business work?

barry0912 answers:

Firstly, if you have no experience in the internet cafe business, I’d advise that you work in one for the next six months or so doing everything from busing tables and washing dishes to waiting tables and cooking if they’ll allow you back there and if you have the skills. This will give you some of the work experience that you’ll need to understand and run an internet cafe profitably.

If this is your first business venture, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I’d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE. Ask for someone who has a background in restaurants and internet cafes and they’ll try their best to match you with the right counselor.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting an internet cafe and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you’ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you’ll get them to find out and want to come to your fabulous internet cafe.

The location is important but doesn’t make it successful. To prove that all you have to do is walk down a street in your town where there are several nice restaurants all in a row and you’ll find one or two that are empty while the others are very busy. It has to do with menu, ambiance, and your reputation at the beginning and over time.

You also have to have food handling licenses, the right zoning, the right city and county licenses and permits and you have to be skilled at negotiating with your landlord about who’ll stand the cost of the build-out or the changes to the premises to make it ready for your look and feel.

You also have to worry about the normal business planning and management issues related to starting up any business.

How can I market my web development company?

I work for a 13 man web development company in the Midwest. I was recently moved into marketing under an inept manager. She withholds information and is not a team player. I love the company and the rest of the people I work with and would like to be an asset to the company. I don’t have a lot of experience in marketing… What can I do to drum up business?

Right now I pretty much just attend Chamber of commerce functions and try to utilize my personal network.

barry0912 answers:

There’s a whole bunch of methods you can use. To utilize your network is a good idea. You could create a linkedin.com profile for example, add people there, create on Linkedin a profile of your company. The same thing with Facebook. Also a company corporate blog is a nice idea.

If you need to execute an Internet marketing (SEO) campaign, my company could help you with it – http://www.webtexsolutions.com/

Your Questions About Internet Marketing News

Susan asks…

how do you go about finding investors for a completely internet based business?

Does anyone know where do you go to find investors to see if they might be interested in investing in your business? I’m planning to start up a new internet business which I think is pretty unique but I’m not sure how to find investors who maybe could help with marketing it and getting it known.

barry0912 answers:

Marketing and funding are completely different issues.

If you need additional funding to get your idea developed, you have a long road ahead of you. This would involve creating a business plan and a basic website (which you can do yourself), and getting in touch with another organization that can help you track down angel investors who may be interested in your deal. This is difficult because without a “prototype” funding companies will take up your time looking at your deal, but will almost never invest. Some sneaky funding companies already have “portfolio” companies they’ve invested in, and they’re looking to you for a free education and trade secrets they can apply to their own business. This is not fair, but there is hardly anything you can do about it, since it is you that needs the funding and it is almost impossible to get a potential funder to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

If, on the other hand, you’ve already done a substantial amount of work on the product and/or website so you can begin promoting it, there are a ton of ways to get your website “noticed”. Internet marketing techniques include blogs, news/press release submission to article engines, Google Adwords, Pay-Per-Click, email marketing, co-registration including paid solo ads, Squidoo, MySpace, search engine optimization (SEO), search engine URL submission, traffic engines, safelists, white papers, free ebooks with embedded promotional info, newsletters, etc.

What companies offer the best cable and internet packages?

Im in the area of NYC looking to find the best cable and internet bundles for my dollar

barry0912 answers:

NYC offers top providers like TWC, ATT, Verizon and many more. As for who offers the best bundle all depends on your requirements, what speed you need on your internet connection and what your TV preferences are(sports, movies, news, etc). Remember the market is very competitive and most of these companies will allow you to customize your bundles based on your preferences.

Lizzie asks…

What should I learn to design websites?

I’m studying Visual Communication/Advertising arts right now. It’s a degree concerning marketing strategies, gimmicks and graphic design. (We usually design all types of media, like news papers, magazines, advertisements and sometimes videography.)
I’d really like to learn to design a website so I could design my own(as my portfolio).
Plus it’s a big plus on my resume.

barry0912 answers:

Actually, HTML is not that hard to learn on your own. There are a lot of good sources and tutorials on the Internet from which you can gain knowledge on the subject, but you should also take a good look at CSS and JavaScript. Most sites employ a combination of the three programming languages. In fact, JavaScript can be used extensively throughout a site to provide functionality that, when combined with CSS and HTML, is memorable.

Go to your local book store or library and look through a few books concerning the subjects you want to learn. Take them home and get started. You should not, however, attempt to get your feet wet with a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) like Dreamweaver. Learn how to hand code first!

You should try using Notepad or even Notepad ++. I have both, and I prefer Notepad ++ because of the way I can change the programming language when I am writing code. Also, if you truly want to learn code, you should start to think as logically as possible. You should not try to do to many things on one line of code. Oh ya, remember to ask for help from other experienced coders, and practice daily. Good luck.

How to develop a marketing plan for a e-business?

I am thinking of starting a new business and I want to promote it in the internet. I have not experience of developing marketing strategy. So how can I get help to develop a sound marketing plan.

barry0912 answers:

A marketing plan is a marketing plan for whatever sort of business, whether its internet based or not. It would be useful to prepare a business plan which has within it a marketing plan, rather than just rely upon a marketing plan. Lots of start up business places have guides to how to prepare both documents
